The Second Annual Women in Manufacturing STEP Awards will be held on February 6, 2014 in Washington, D.C and will recognize 160 recipients who have had accomplishments in manufacturing.

A study from IHS Automotive has predicted that by the year 2035, there will be approximately 54 million self-driving cars on the road. They also project that by 2030 cars that are purely autonomous with no driver controls will be available.

According to a market research report by MarketsandMarkets, the total automotive sensor market is expected to reach $33.59 billion by 2022 at a CAGR of 7.8%; and the volume of sensors is expected to reach 8930.00 million units in 2022 from 2,965.37 million units in 2012, at an estimated CAGR of 11.7% from 2013 to 2022.

Toyota Motor Corporation spoke to the House Energy and Commerce panel overseeing technology that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) should not move forward with a plan to allow expanded parts of the wireless spectrum for Internet access until testing can ensure that it won’t threaten auto safety advances. 

A team of three researchers from University of Pittsburgh’s Swanson School  of Engineering, Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and the University of Illinois received a $855,000 grant from the U.S. Army Research Office to take advance 3D printing further.
