New Electromagnetic Compatibility Standard, IEC 61000-1-2:2016

The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) has released IEC 61000-1-2:2016. This standard deals with "Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) - Part 1-2: General - Methodology for the achievement of functional safety of electrical and electronic systems including equipment with regard to electromagnetic phenomena."

CENELEC Publishes EN 60603-7-81:2016, Standard for Connectors for Electronic Equipment

The European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) has announced EN 60603-7-81:2016. This standard is titled, "Connectors for electronic equipment - Part 7-81: Detail specification for 8-way, shielded, free and fixed connectors, for data transmissions with frequencies up to 2 000 MHz."

Engineers Design Smaller, Cheaper RFID Tags

Engineers at NC State developed a new technique that makes RFID tags less expensive and 25 percent smaller than conventional versions. They shrunk the tags by eliminating the bulky hardware that is typically required in passive RFID systems for AC/DC conversion.

MIT Engineer Achieves Zero Resistance Edge State in Circuit

Researchers led by MIT postdoc Cui-Zu Chang has achieved the first zero-resistance edge state in a circuit. The circuit exhibits the quantum anomalous Hall effect, a property that allows it to transfer information. Superconductors have also achieved zero resistance, but they can only transfer electrical information.
