Pilot Project at UTSA College of Engineering Improves Student Retention, Grades and Graduation Rate

A 5-year pilot project at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) College of Engineering that introduced a new freshman seminar course called Just in Time Math (JITM) has shown improvements in retention rate and grade point average in students who took the class.

The JITM seminar course was developed as a way to shorten the time it takes students to start their engineering core classes and introduce freshman students to lab experience and math topics commonly used in core engineering classes. The results of the five year study have shown on average, the retention rate of this group was 20% higher than students who were not included in the study.

Read more about the study results and how the Just in Time Math seminar course is creating a new national model for engineering mathematics education.
