A report released by the Solving the E-Waste Problem (StEP) details the growth of e-waste will come from emerging economies instead of from the West for the first time.
The report states that the overall growth of e-waste is projected to increase 33% in the next five years – from 48.9 million tons in 2012 to 65.4 million tons in 2017. The eleven emerging economies listed in the report discarded more than a million tons of refrigerators and almost three quarters of a million tons of personal computers.
