The Office of Engineering and Technology (OET) of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is seeking comments on a number of spectrum policy issues, following recommendations issued by the FCC’s Technical Advisory Council (TAC).
According to a Public Notice issued in early December, the OET is seeking ways to address the increasing challenges of the efficient and fair allocation of spectrum in congested RF environments. The TAC’s recommendations include a number of specific actions in each of the following areas:
- The adoption of the TAC’s recommendations for Basic Spectrum Principles, which establish clear expectations regarding interference;
- The wider adoption of risk-informed interference assessment and statistical service rules; and
- The implementation of steps to improve interference resolution, including the creation of a public database of past radio-related enforcement activities, and the incorporation of “interference hunters” in the resolution process.
Comments on the TAC’s spectrum policy recommendations are due by not later than January 21, 2018, and can be filed electronically at http://apps.fcc.gov/ecfs (reference ET Docket No. 17-340).
