The Food and Drug Administration has announced guidelines for cybersecurity for medical device manufacturers. The guidelines recommend that manufacturers consider possible cybersecurity issues, and solutions before releasing products are to the market. Medical devices should use encrypted communication methods, and secure authentication for access.
The guidelines also require manufacturers to provide the FDA with potential cybersecurity risks that have been determined, and the controls that were put in place to diminish future risks. The FDA will be holding a national workshop later this month to identify cybersecurity challenges and methods for the market players to collaborate to address these challenges.
