Audi, Qualcomm Announce Initial C-V2X Deployment

In conjunction with the Virginia Department of Transportation, Audi of America and Qualcomm Technologies have announced plans for an initial deployment of cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) technologies on roadways in Northern Virginia during the second half of the year.

According to a press release issued by Audi in late January, the C-V2X technologies planned for the deployment would operate on a portion of the 5.9 GHz band that has been proposed for V2X use by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The deployment would specifically focus on delivering signal timing information to vehicles approaching signalized intersections, as well as work zone warnings on highways.

The companies say that this initial C-V2X deployment will be used to expand the number of safety use cases supporting the broader use of C-V2X technologies in the coming years.

A Dash of Maxwell’s: A Maxwell’s Equations Primer – Part One

Solving Maxwell’s Equations for real-life situations, like predicting the RF emissions from a cell tower, requires more mathematical horsepower than any individual mind can muster. These equations don’t give the scientist or engineer just insight, they are literally the answer to everything RF.

The planned C-V2X deployment is being made under an experimental license issued by the FCC. According to FCC Chair Ajit Pai, the FCC believes that the formal adoption of its proposal to designate spectrum in the 5.9 GHz band for the deployment of C-V2X technologies “would be a significant step forward for automotive safety.”
