Würth Elektronik Expands Coupled Power Inductor Line

Würth Elektronik has expanded its WE-MCRI series of coupled power inductors with the 1090HL, a high-leakage variant purpose-built for SEPIC, ZETA, and Ćuk converter topologies. Rather than minimizing leakage inductance, the industry’s usual approach, the design deliberately incorporates a controlled level of it to sharpen ripple current filtering, ease EMC compliance, and cut the need for extra filtering components. Housed in an 11 x 10 x 9mm molded body, the double choke lets designers replace two separate inductors with a single coupled part, trimming both component count and PCB area, and it also allows a smaller AC coupling capacitor without sacrificing efficiency. With a 1:1 turns ratio and a magnetically shielded composite core rated across -40°C to +125°C, the part also suits buck, boost, flyback, and other switching regulator topologies. Würth Elektronik specifies tolerances for both coupling factor and leakage inductance, values the company notes many manufacturers leave undefined, and offers free samples with no minimum order quantity.
