World’s Smallest Nanowires Created by Vanderbilt Graduate Student

A doctorate student from Vanderbilt University built the world’s thinnest nanowire, just three atoms wide. The wires were created in collaboration with a mentor at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Using a finely focused beam of electrons, the wires were carved out of atomic monolayers of transition-metal dichalcogenides. The features of monolayers inlude incredible strength, flexibility, transparency and high electron mobility.

Read more about the potential of the world’s smallest nanowires and monolayer technology.
