Windfarm developer addresses interference concerns and wins approval

A wind farm operator and a local telephone company in Brookings, S.D., have worked out an agreement to prevent electrical power lines from interfering with phone service.

Iberdrola Renewables, the wind farm developer, and Interstate Telecommunications Co. (ITC) informed the Brookings County Commission Jan. 26 of their agreement, which allayed ITC’s concerns, and the commission approved a 20-year franchise agreement for the wind farm project.

The wind farm, called Buffalo Ridge II, LLC, is to be made up of 100 2-megawatt wind turbines spread across parts of Brookings and neighboring Deuel counties.
