Virginia Tech Research Team Develops Sugar Battery

A team of researchers at Virginia Tech have developed at battery that utilizes sugar creating an energy-dense battery that could replace traditional batteries. These new batteries would be more economical, refillable and biogradable.

This is not the first sugar battery to be developed, but the energy density of this new battery is an order of magnitude higher than previous ones. By creating a more energy-dense battery, the battery can run longer before it needs to be refueled. The team is hoping in as little as three years, the new battery could be used in cell phones, tablets, video games and other electronic devices.
