The Federal Aviation Administration has announced the readiness of an unmanned aircraft systems test site in Nevada that will conduct research necessary to assimilate UAS into national airspace. The State of Nevada was granted a two-year Certificate of Waiver or Authorization (COA) to use an Insitu ScanEagle at the Desert Rock Airport in Mercury, NV.
The research conducted at this test site will focus on UAS standards and operations, and certification requirements and standards for operators. Air traffic control procedures will also be reviewed on how to introduce UAS into civil airspace, as well as how UAS will be integrated into NextGen, the upgrade of the national airspace system.
