University of Washington Clean Energy Institute Focuses on Solar and Battery Technologies

The Clean Energy Institute was formed last summer when the governor and state legislators gave $6 million to create a research center to develop efficient, cost-effective solar power and better energy storage systems.

The introduction of the new institute occurred last week and was attended by the University’s president, the governor of Washington and renewable energy experts and policy leaders. The goal of the institute is to better connect and boost existing research at the University of Washington. It will also support research on how solar energy production, battery storage and smart-grid technology can work in conjunction to accelerate the improvement of clean energy.
