University of Colorado-Boulder hosted Girls Explore Engineering Day

CU-Boulder hosted Girls Explore Engineering Day that had almost 60 high school girls the opportunity to explore and tour CU’s College of Engineering and Applied Science last week. These events are part of the college’s long-term goal to attract more women and minority students to engineering.

The college is targeting female high school students in its recruiting efforts and using different words and contexts that better explain engineering to them.  Earlier this year, the college hosted a “mocktail” party for admitted students that displayed there’s more than being an engineer than the stereotypes they usually hear about.  The college states 28% of the engineering freshman class this year are women, an increase of 5% over the 2012 freshman class.
