UL acquires Compliance Certification Services

Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) has acquired Compliance Certification Services Inc. (CCS) in order to bolster its electromagnetic compliance (EMC) testing business, UL announced Monday.

CCS, based in the Silicon Valley community of Fremont, Calif., will be renamed UL CCS and will provide EMC and wireless testing services to electronics manufacturers in the U.S., Taiwan, China, Korea and Japan.  UL CCS will test client product compliance with standards set by the FCC in the U.S., the CE in Europe and similar standards-setting organizations in Canada, Japan, Korea, Singapore and Taiwan.

“UL’s mission is to advance public safety worldwide, and the acquisition of UL CCS grows our EMC and wireless testing and certification capabilities locally and globally,” said Keith Williams, president and CEO of UL, based in Northbrook, Ill.

The UL CCS facility in Fremont is a state-of-the-art photovoltaic testing facility that will also expand UL’s testing capabilities to include certifying antennas for the telecommunications industry and evaluating interoperability of wireless communications, UL stated.
