The U.S. Navy has selected 15 locations across three counties in Washington to conduct war exercises with military aircraft using three camper-sized trucks. These trucks are equipped with electromagnetic radiation emitting equipment to simulate modern electronic threats in an open-air environment.
Twelve of the test sites are located in the Olympic National Forest and three additional sites on state Department of National Resources land. The emitter systems, located on ridges and cliffs, would be operated by two crew members, and electromagnetic radiation would be emitted towards open areas to properly train the system operators. The Navy is scheduling the deployment of these systems and the start of warfare exercise to begin by September 2015.
