TUV Rheinland North America & TÜV Rheinland Mexico Sign Mutual Recognition Agreement For Electronic Product Safety Assessments

TÜV Rheinland de México S.A. de C.V. (TÜV Rheinland Mexico) and TUV Rheinland North America signed the Mutual Recognition Agreement allowing TÜV Rheinland Mexico to issue NOM (Mexican Official Standards) product safety certificates for electric and electronic products based on previous validation by TUV Rheinland North America. This agreement for product safety assessments in accordance with applicable national and international standards was recently published in “The Mexico Federal Official Gazette” by the Ministry of Economy of Mexico.

Before the agreement, it could take between 10 to 18 working days to generate reports, resulting in increased costs for  companies to import or export products between countries. From now on, the lead time for manufacturers to receive their safety certificates will be shortened to four working days maximum.

Companies will be able to reduce costs for safety evaluations of electrical products, including household and hand tools. Costs are also reduced because required safety testing is done only once and results are valid in both Mexico and U.S.A.
