TÜV SÜD Expands Battery Testing Capabilities in U.S. and Canada

TÜV SÜD America, part of the global TÜV SÜD testing, inspection, and certification organization, is pleased to announce that it has expanded Battery Testing capabilities in its Auburn Hills, Michigan and Newmarket, Ontario lab facilities.

The new expansion includes:

  • Increased 100-amp cell channels capacity from 72 to 144
  • Increased the number of pack cyclers to 19, with the addition of another AeroVironment AV 900
  • 10 additional reach-in thermal chambers
  • 3 new walk-in thermal chambers

“We are excited about the expansion and the ability to better serve our customers. With several additional expansion phases planned over the next 12 months, we want to ensure the facilities will meet the future needs of our customers and not just their current requirements,” stated Darryl Fleger, General Manager of TÜV SÜD Canada. “Battery technology is evolving quickly and we need to work very closely with our partners as we grow our global testing capabilities,” concluded Mr. Fleger.

EMC & eMobility

For a company embarking on EMC testing for either component or vehicle-level testing of their EV products, it is necessary first to have a good understanding of the EMC regulatory situation.

Both the 21,000 sq. ft. Newmarket facility along with the newly renovated 17,000 sq. ft. Auburn Hills facility, are fully ISO/IEC 17025 A2LA-accredited to provide abuse, durability, performance, and life cycle testing of battery cells, modules, and packs. With the expertise from the acquisition of Innovative Testing Solutions (ITS) last January, TÜV SÜD offers training for high-voltage systems and safety along with engineering support for testing validation planning.
