Trump Appoints Pai as New FCC Chairman

The Trump administration has appointed Ajit Pai to the position of Chairman of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

The son of immigrants from India, Pai graduated from Harvard University and the University of Chicago Law School.  He has a nearly 20 year career in both public service and in the private sector.  Pai served as Deputy General Counsel, Associate General Counsel and Special Advisor to the General Counsel for the FCC from 2007 through 2011. He was appointed to the Commission by President Barack Obama and unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate in May 2012.

According to the biography posted on the FCC website, Pai’s regulatory philosophy is founded on the principals of providing innovative technology, better jobs, and improved economic growth at lower prices for all. In remarks before the FCC’s staff following his appointment in January, Pai identified as one of his core priorities the need to facilitate the efforts of industry to bring the benefits of the digital age to all Americans, thereby helping closing the digital divide in the U.S.
