Trek Bicycle Corporation has issued a recall for the Bontrager and Ion Accessory Lights. The lights may not work properly when paired with the remote transmitter device. At this time there have been no injuries reported however, several reports of intermittent light function have been reported. If the lights turn off while the bicycle is used in low-light conditions, the rider may not be visible to vehicle operators or other road users. In addition, the rider may also lose visibility of road and path conditions, posing a crash hazard.

The affected lights are the Bontrager Flare RT accessory light, sold individually for rear-facing use, and the Ion 700 RT accessory light is forward-facing and sold with a remote as part of the Bontrager Transmitter Lighting Set. Both units are powered by a rechargeable lithium ion battery.

Consumers are advised to remove the accessory lights immediately and contact Trek for a free replacement.
