Toyota Recalls 6.4 Million Vehicles Worldwide

Five defects have prompted Toyota to recall 6.39 million vehicles around the world, with 2.34 million recalled in the U.S. Recalled vehicles were built between April 2004 and August 2013.

 

27 different Toyota models, Pontiac Vibe and Subaru Trezia were included in the recall and none of the defects have been associated with crashes or deaths, but the company knows of two fires that have been linked to a defective starter.  The five defects that led to these recalls include:

          cables for the driver air bag module that can be damaged, disabling the bag

          seats that do not lock into place correctly

          steering column brackets that may become loose or fail

          windshield wiper motor

          starter motor fire hazard
