In letters to the FCC, DOT and Department of Commerce, the Senators and private sector businesses both outlined agreed upon principles and goals for determining the feasibility of sharing the valuable spectrum in the 5.9 GHz band to provide more spectrum for unlicensed uses like Wi-Fi.
TIA CEO Scott Belcher issued the following statement:
“TIA is optimistic that vehicle-to-vehicle technologies and unlicensed wireless technologies can co-exist within the 5.9 GHz band. However, it is vital that testing be completed to ensure that harmful interference will not occur. TIA is supportive of testing efforts by industry partners and is encouraged by the testing principles and goals advanced by Chairman Thune and Senators Rubio and Booker. The FCC, DOT, and NTIA should take action to help implement this strategy.”
