The Society of Women Engineers Appoints Executive Director and CEO

Deputy Executive Director Karen Horting was appointed to the position of Executive Director and CEO of The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) beginning January 1, 2014. The position was previously held by Betty Shanahan for the past 11 years.

Joining SWE nine years ago, Horting has transformed the organization through her many contributions. She was tasked with overseeing all aspects of fund development and built the Corporate Partnership Council to include more than

70 influential industry organizations.  She was also involved in shaping the Society’s portfolio of offering for professional development, K-12 outreach, the SWE Annual Conference and SWE’s international expansion.
