The 2012 class of ACES Fellows has been announced with two members elevated to the Fellow grade. Prof. Levent Gürel of Bilkent University and Dr. C. J. Reddy, President of Applied EM Inc./EM Software & Systems (USA) Inc. have been elevated to Fellow in 2012. Their biographies follow. ACES introduced the Fellows program in 2008. The grade of Fellow is bestowed by the ACES Board of Directors upon a person with exceptional achievements in computational electromagnetics, including ACES publications, and extensive service to ACES. A complete list of ACES Fellows can be found at http://www.engineering.olemiss.edu/
Prof. Levent Gürel:
He also serves as director of the Bilkent University Computational Electromagnetics Research Center (BiLCEM). Since 2006, BiLCEM researchers have been setting world records by solving extremely large problems in computational electromagnetics. The ultimate benefit is finding solutions to previously intractable scientific and real-life problems in many important areas, of which medical imaging, wireless communications, remote sensing and optics are only a few.
Prof. Gürel is an associate editor of several academic journals in his field. He is also serving as guest editor of a special issue of the ACES Journal, and delivered the plenary address at ACES’s 2011 international conference in March.
Earlier this year, Prof. Gürel was named an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer for 2011-13, providing the opportunity for him to share his expertise in computational electromagnetics with researchers all over the world. Among the marks of recognition he has received in Turkey, two prestigious awards from the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) in 2002 and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) in 2003 are the most notable.
Dr. C. J. Reddy:
Currently, Dr. Reddy is the President and Chief Technical Officer of Applied EM Inc, a small company specializing in computational electromagnetics, antenna design and development. At Applied EM, Dr. Reddy successfully led many Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) projects from the US Department of Defense (DoD). Some of the technologies developed under these projects are being considered for transition to the DoD. Dr. Reddy also serves as the President of EM Software & Systems (USA) Inc. At EMSS (USA), he is leading the marketing and support of commercial 3D electromagnetic software, FEKO in North America.
Dr. Reddy is a Senior Member of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and also a Senior Member of Antenna Measurement Techniques Association (AMTA). Dr. Reddy serves as a member of IEEE MTT Society Technical Committee TC-24 (RFID Technologies). He is also a member of the Applied Computational Electromagnetic Society (ACES) and served as a member of Board of Directors from 2006 to 2012. He published 35 journal papers, 54 conference papers and 17 NASA Technical Reports to date. Dr. Reddy was the General Chair of ACES 2011 Conference held in Williamsburg, VA during March 27-31, 2011.
