The president of Serbia, Tomislav Nikolic, unveiled a three-quarter length statue of inventor Nikola Tesla on the grounds of his former laboratory in the small Long Island, NY town Shoreham. The Tesla Science Center has lobbied for 20 years to turn the laboratory into a museum and has finally managed to acquire the site early this year.
The statue shows Tesla with his arms outstretched in the midst of some sort of experiment. About 100 people attended the dedication and was the latest step in making the Wardenclyfee Tesla Museum into a reality. The museum project was funded through an Indiegogo campaign started by popular web-comic The Oatmeal’s Matthew Ingram last year. The Indiegogo campaign last year raised $1.3 million, far above the $850,000 goal. The state of New York contributed matching funds to ensure the museum could be built.
