The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) defines Hearing Aid Compatibility (HAC) for wireless devices in terms of two parameters; radio-frequency (RF) emissions and telecoil coupling. The Hearing Aid Compatibility Act requires the FCC to ensure all wireline telephones manufactured or imported for use in the United States and all “essential” telephones, such as public phones, emergency phones and workplace phones, are hearing-aid compatible.
