We are proud to carry on the tradition of sharing Banana Skins for the purpose of promoting education for EMI/EMC engineers.

The goal of this paper is to investigate fundamental mathematical and statistical algorithms for the spatiospectral analysis of electromagnetic coupling in large, complex electronic systems. A novel stochastic Green’s function and a statistical representation formula are proposed, which statistically replicates the multipath wave-chaotic dynamics inside cavity environments. The work achieves a physics-based modeling and simulation capability that predicts the probabilistic behavior of high power radio-frequency induced current and voltages in complex electronic systems.

The regular “Banana Skins” column was published in the EMC Journal, starting in January 1998.

In its current form, IEEE Std 149 “IEEE Standard Test Procedures for Antennas” is a marginally useful document. While the standard is a good source for interesting and pertinent information, the document has not undergone a significant update since 1979. The changes to the new version of the IEEE Std 149 will make the document an essential reference in any laboratory that conducts antenna measurements.

During the testing of one aircraft, we suffered a very marked and complete electrical failure of the aircraft (much to the alarm of both the test engineers and the cockpit crew) which turned out to be due to the EUT we were testing.
