Telcordia Releases the Most Recent Developments for Multimode and Single-Mode Fiber OTDR’s and the Latest OTDR Format

Optical time domain reflectometer equipment (OTDR) is used to characterize optical fibers in the outside plant portions of a typical communications service provider’s network.

Published in 2010, GR-196, Issue 2 is the generic requirement for OTDR type equipment. This issue addresses criteria for the newer, hand-sized and battery operated OTDRs and new features and flexibility of today’s OTDRs.

Released in 2011, SR-4731 contains updated OTDR data formats and a unique software tool used to store all OTDR equipment fiber data to an implementable, consistent format. The alignment of the data format fields with the coding used by high-quality software and archive and analyze the information stored in this data format.

Mastering High Voltage: The Importance of Accurate Test Equipment

This whitepaper underscores that precise calibration of high-voltage test gear — especially when measuring 1 kV–150 kV systems — is essential for safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance. It details measurement techniques (voltage dividers, step-down transformers, etc.), the impact of environmental and connection factors on accuracy, and why traceable calibration (e.g. to NIST / A2LA) is a must to ensure consistent, reliable results.
