Technology Review, a magazine published by MIT, this week introduced its first ever list of the 50 most innovative companies in the world.
While the TR50 list features many household name brands such as Apple, Google, IBM, Nissan and Twitter, it also includes key players in the electrical and electronics industries.
The companies were recognized for innovative technology in the fields of energy, biomedicine, computing, the Web, among others, and were evaluated based on their business model, the scalability of their business and the likelihood of success.
“We selected companies that are successfully growing businesses and markets around innovative new products,” said Jason Pontin, editor-in-chief and publisher of Technology Review.
Among the other companies recognized are these:
American Superconductor Corp., which licenses, designs and installs electrical systems.
1366 Technologies, which helps improve the manufacturing processes for multi-crystalline silicon solar panels.
Infinera, a provider of digital optical networking systems to telecommunications carriers.
Prime View International, a maker of liquid crystal display panels.
Solyndra, a builder of solar energy systems.
Tilera, a maker of multicore semiconductors.
