TDK Expands Portfolio of EPCOS IEC Inlet Filters

TDK Corporation has announced the expansion of the EPCOS B84771* IEC inlet filter series with two new series.  The B84773* series features an integrated fuse, and the B84776* series has both a switch and a fuse.  All series are also available as versions for medical applications with a maximum leakage current of 2 µA, which makes them particularly suitable for applications in which minimized leakage current is important.

Both new series contain a fuse holder for two fuses with a diameter of 5 mm and a length of 20 mm.  The power switch of the B84776* series is of bipolar design that separates the phase and the neutral conductor.  The rated voltage of the connector filters is 250 V AC at 50/60 Hz.  They are designed for rated currents from 1 A to 10 A.  The B84711* version is even available for rated currents up to 20 A.  The filters are attached to the equipment with screws or snap-in clips.  They are connected via flat connectors with dimensions of 6.3 mm x 0.8 mm or litz wires (B84771*).

VSWR and its Effects on Power Amplifiers

Voltage Standing Wave Ratio results from an impedance mismatch between a source (an amplifier) and a load (test application). This mismatch can influence the performance of the source.

All filters were designed for maximum ambient temperatures of 85o C and are RoHS-compatible.  The B84771* versions already have UL/CSA/ENC approval.  Both the B84773* and B84776* series have received UL/CSA approval.  ENEC approval is pending.

Typical applications of these new IEC inlet filters are switch-mode power supplies, office and measuring instruments, arcade machines, electronic POS systems, small electrical machines, fitness equipment, and equipment for medical applications.
