Target Reveals New Sustainable Product Standard

Big-box retailer Target unveiled a new policy that demands beauty supply and household cleaner manufacturers to remove harmful chemicals from their products.  Their new Sustainable Product Standard program will assess the safety of more than 7500 household cleaners and beauty, cleaning and baby care products sold in over 1700 Target stores.

The crackdown on hazardous chemicals in this largely unregulated personal care products industry is another milestone in the movement for safer consumable goods. Target will collaborate with Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, a coalition of environmental and health organization, to create new safety standards for cosmetic rating beginning in 2014.
