Sump pumps recalled due to shock hazard

ITT Water Technology of Seneca Falls, NY has announced the recall of about 21,000 of its sump pumps and effluent pumps, which include electric power cords manufactured in China.

The company reports that the power cords used with the recalled pumps lack ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) protection, which can pose an electric shock or electrocution hazard to consumers.  ITT Water Technology says that it has not received any reports of injuries related to the recalled pumps, but has issued the recall to protect against possible future injuries.

The recalled pumps were installed in new construction or as replacement pumps between December 2009 and July 2010.  The pumps are sky blue or red in color, and display the brand names Goulds, Red Jacket, or Bell & Gossett.

ITT Water Technology is warning consumers who suspect that they may have a recalled pump not to touch the pump, the water around the pump, or the floor surrounding the pump. Instead, consumers should call the company at 866-325-4204 to verify that their pump is included in the recall, so that a technician can be dispatched to replace or repair the pump.
