Four sets of mechanisms have been defined by Wi-Fi Alliance to implement peer-to-peer video, printing, and other tasks using Wi-Fi Direct. The features are optional but electronic devices, chips, and other products can be included in the certification of a device.
“Each mechanism allows the user to discover, connect and do a particular function with one click,” said Edgar Figueroa, president and CEO of the Alliance. The four mechanisms include Miracast, Wi-Fi Direct Send, Wi-Fi Direct Print, and Wi-Fi Direct for DNLA. Wi-Fi Alliance will be providing manufacturers applications for each feature to develop a user interface for their specific electronic equipment to pass onto their end customers.
