Society of Women Engineers Provides Free Tools to Retain Engineers

Society of Women Engineers | In Compliance Magazine

In an environment where 50 percent of engineers report leaving or declining jobs because of work and life integration issues, the Society of Women Engineers is proud to unveil the “Work & Life Integration Playbook.” SWE’s survey in 2012 of more than 400 participants illustrated the need for this free resource, concluding that 72 percent of respondents believe work and life integration policies have not contributed to fulfilling career dreams.

In its first eBook, SWE provides tools and case studies in policies, methods and tactics for encouraging employees to maintain a healthy relationship between home life and career pursuits. The playbook features stories from women engineers who have been there – struggling to achieve a happy medium between reaching professional goals and maintaining connections with friends and family outside the workplace. Case studies of successful practices leveraged by companies such as Dell, GE Aviation, Raytheon, Motorola Solution, Inc. and The Home Depot illustrate how to strategically create an environment that encourages the health and wellbeing of all employees. In this practical must-read for all human resources professionals, SWE highlights different methods for achieving work-life balance, including various flexible working arrangements, parental programs, health and wellness initiatives, dependent care and programming aimed at assisting employees with the financial concerns that could otherwise impact work performance.
