‘Smart’ Highway Opens in Netherlands

‘Smart’ Highway Opens in Netherlands | In Compliance Magazine

The first project of the ‘Smart’ Highway, Glowing Lines, has opened in Oss, the Netherlands. Glowing Lines is a section of highway that is lined with solar-powered lines that increase visibility and safety. The lines were painted with a special photo-luminescent paint that charges during the day and glows at night.

Future plans for the ‘Smart’ Highway include glowing snowflakes when road conditions become icy, special powered electric lanes that can charge electric cars, and traffic lights that illuminate only when traffic is passing.

Performance parameters like size, wind-loading, environmental ruggedness, transmission pattern, bandwidth, and power handling capability should be considered. Methods of measuring the transmission (or reception) pattern that determines antenna gain with a VNA will be examined in this article.
