Signal Hound has introduced the Radar Pulse Generator, a licensed software upgrade for its VSG60 and VSG200 signal generators. The feature lets engineers and technicians build complex radar pulse trains with precise control over pulse shape, timing, coding, and antenna scan patterns.
A dedicated sequence editor assembles complete radar scenarios from individually shaped pulses, sub-sequences, and off-time segments. Users can arrange items in transmit order, save and recall entire scenarios, and play sequences back from a single trigger or continuously. Supported pulse formats include CW, linear chirp, Barker, polyphase, Frank, and custom formats, with jitter, modulation, automatic pulse-width variation using a linear ramp, and scanning radar simulation with adjustable scan rates and receiver bearing. Individual pulses and pulse-width tables can be imported and exported for reuse and sharing.
Applications include stress-testing radar and electronic warfare receivers with jittered, staggered, and wobbulated pulse repetition intervals, validating pulse descriptor word extraction and pulse-sorting algorithms, and testing intra-pulse modulation recognition and pulse compression processing. The software also supports testing of pulsed components such as amplifiers, mixers, diplexers, circulators, and filters.
Signal Hound CEO Harrison Osbourn says, “Radar Pulse Generator gives engineers the flexibility to create realistic, repeatable pulse trains while maintaining precise control over timing, modulation and antenna behavior.”
