Self-Driving Car Tested on Japan’s Highways

With an official license plate from the Japanese government, Nissan Motor Company has conducted the first public road test of its “Autonomous Drive” with a special version of its Leaf electric vehicle. The test was performed on the Sagami Expressway.

In a partnership with Kanagawa Prefecture, the road test was done in a place near the “Sagami Robot Industry Special Zone”, a place where projects such as life-assist robots with sensors, control systems and even artificial intelligence are created. With a successful road test, Nissan hopes to achieve their goal of being ready with commercially feasible vehicles with a different mobility by the year 2020.
