Rohde & Schwarz has announced two new high-power additions to its R&S BBA300 solid-state broadband amplifier family: the BBA300-DE500 and BBA300-DE1000, delivering 500 W and 1000 W respectively across a continuous 1–6 GHz frequency range. Designed for automotive, aerospace, and defense EMC applications, the new models eliminate band switching to increase efficiency in automated test sequences.
As immunity test requirements grow in these sectors, the need for precise, high-field-strength generation has become critical — particularly for vehicle component testing, full-vehicle testing, and High-Intensity Radiated Fields (HIRF) applications. The BBA300 family’s Solid-State Power Amplifier (SSPA) technology delivers higher availability and robustness than traditional Traveling Wave Tube (TWT) amplifiers.
Both models support a broad range of modulation types — from amplitude and pulse modulation to complex OFDM signals — with high linearity and extreme mismatch tolerance ensuring reproducible results under demanding load conditions.
The units are housed in pre-configured 30U racks optimized for horn antenna mounting. A centrally positioned RF output with 7/16 connector minimizes cable loss at high frequencies, improving the overall system link budget. The optional BBA-PK1 (available for the DE500) allows users to adjust the bias point for maximum linearity or precise pulsed signal reproduction, and to configure the balance between output power and mismatch tolerance.
The BBA300 family’s modular architecture supports system expansion and integration with other Rohde & Schwarz amplifier families, including the BBA130/150, providing long-term investment protection for EMC test houses and development laboratories.
