Robot Completes Hitchhiking Trip Across Canada

A team of communications researchers developed a robot, named HitchBOT, to study the interaction between humans and robots. The research project began on July 27 in Halifax, Nova Scotia where the robot was left on the side of the road to hitchhike rides to and travel across the country to Kelowna, British Columbia.

The robot was fitted with a GPS to allow the research team to track its progress. HitchBOT traveled 6,000 kilometers and completed the cross-country trip on August 16. The robot was a guest at a wedding, participated at a powwow in Northern Ontario, and photographed its journey by posting on social media.
