In a first for the agency, the Enforcement Bureau of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has officially classified a group of robocall companies as a threat to the security of consumer information.
According to an FCC Enforcement Advisory issued in mid-May, the group of voice service providers, Royal Tiger, has been classified as a “Consumer Communications Information Services Threat” (C-CIST) in connection with its repeated origination and transmission of unlawful robocalls which impersonated government entities, banks, and utility companies. Specific companies operating in the U.S. as part of the Royal Tiger group include Illum Telecommunication Limited, PZ Telecommunication LLC, and One Eye LLC.
The FCC Enforcement Advisory also notes the Enforcement Bureau’s extensive history of enforcement actions against the U.S.-based Royal Tiger entities between 2021 and 2023, including Cease and Desist Letters, Final Determination Orders, and Order for Sanctions.
The FCC says that the C-CIST classification of Royal Tiger and its U.S. entities will heighten awareness of the group and its illegal practices with other regulatory agencies, law enforcement, and industry players.
