RMIT University Opens Cutting-Edge Research Facility

A $30 million research facility opened at the RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia last week. The MicroNano Research Facility (MNRF) houses the world’s first rapid 3D nanoscale printer that can produce thousands of assemblies in seconds.

The facility includes nine laboratories and access to more than 50 cutting edge tools for researchers to use. Ten research teams will utilize the facility to drive technological advances in physics, chemistry, engineering, and other industries. Several of the projects being worked on at the facility include developing microactuators to remove deep brain blood clots, creating new energy harvesting techniques using unique materials to attract energy to recharge batteries, and new methods to remove fabric dye toxins with water using nanotechnology.
