Approximately 154,000 ESL and Interlogix hard-wired smoke detectors have been recalled due to radio frequency interference that can cause the smoke detectors to fail to sound and alert consumers of a fire.
The recall involves 33 different models of the 400 and 500 series of smoke detectors. The smoke detectors are hard-wired into a security system and have been primarily used in commercial facilities including schools, hotels/motels, apartments, and college dormitories. The units are 2-wire or 4-wire, and measure six inches wide and two inches high. The recalled detectors were sold between March 2013 and February 2014. Consumers with recalled units should contact their security or fire system provider to verify if any of their detectors are included in the recall.
