Researchers Develop Ultracapacitors Using Graphene and Carbon Nanotubes

A team of researchers from the George Washington University has developed high-performance ultracapacitors that are low cost and could lead to a boost in performance for electric vehicles and portable electronics.

These new ultracapacitors were created when graphene flakes were mixed with single-walled carbon nanotubes. Both of these components have excellent electronic, thermal and mechanical properties and by combining them the performance of this new device was three times higher than devices made from only carbon nanotubes. Another benefit of this technique is the reduction in size and weight compared to traditional ultracapacitors.
