Researchers Combine Magnetic Materials to Increase Efficiency of Electric Motors

Nissan LEAF Under Hood 2

University of Adelaide researchers combined two magnetic materials in electric motors to increase the efficiency. The researchers used two innovative production techniques to combine soft magnetic composite (SMC) and amorphous magnetic material (AMM) to form a stator.

The stator is the stationary, magnetic part of the motor that surrounds the rotor. The researchers tested small prototypes using both of the production techniques, and the results showed a significant increase in energy efficiency. Researchers used one of the newly designed electric motors to create a patented water pump systems that has high efficiency for a variety of applications.

A Dash of Maxwell’s: A Maxwell’s Equations Primer – Part One

Solving Maxwell’s Equations for real-life situations, like predicting the RF emissions from a cell tower, requires more mathematical horsepower than any individual mind can muster. These equations don’t give the scientist or engineer just insight, they are literally the answer to everything RF.
