University of Washington researchers have developed a new gesture-recognition system that uses existing signals to read hand movements rather than large amounts of power that previous gesture-recognition technology has required.
This new system named AllSee uses 1000 to 10,000 times less power that other systems and can also operate on devices that do not use batteries. The device was demonstrated using a Galaxy Nexus phone and looks like a small circuit attached to a straight piece of wire. When a gesture is made, the device picks up changes in wireless signals that are reflected off of a person and determines the gesture with an average accuracy of more than 94%.
