Electronics manufacturers facing worn-out ESD flooring often confront a tough tradeoff: replace it, or keep production running. SelecTech, Inc. says its StaticStop interlocking flooring — including SelecTile ESD and FreeStyle ESD — offers a way to do both.
The adhesive-free tiles can be installed over many existing floor surfaces and completed in phases, letting manufacturers keep other areas operating while work is underway.
“For electronics manufacturers, ESD flooring is an essential part of protecting sensitive products and equipment. The problem is finding a way to replace that flooring without bringing production to a standstill,” said Thomas Ricciardelli, president of SelecTech, Inc.
Traditional floor replacement typically means removing the old floor, prepping the subfloor, applying adhesives, and waiting for curing — a process that can cost hours or days of production. Beyond lost throughput, manufacturers also absorb idle labor, scrap and rework, restart and testing time, and potential customer impact from missed deadlines.
Because SelecTech’s system skips demolition and extensive subfloor prep and can be installed section by section, disruption is minimized. In one case, a customer made a 4,000-square-foot area ESD-compliant, with downtime limited to a single shift, mostly due to furniture moves.
SelecTech also performs pre- and post-installation testing to verify ESD performance, which is critical for electronics, aerospace, and defense manufacturers working with static-sensitive components.
