Reminder Regarding EMC Testing for FCC Certification

Readers of The World in Compliance are reminded that manufacturers seeking FCC equipment authorization for radio frequency (RF) devices will soon be required to file applications for Certification directly with FCC-authorized Telecommunications Certification Bodies (TCBs).

The change was promulgated in revised equipment authorization rules issued by the FCC in December 2014. The requirement to use TCBs for equipment authorization are scheduled to take effect this July, after which point the FCC’s Office of Engineering and Technology (OET) will no longer accept or grant applications for Certification.

It is anticipated that there will be a significant increase in demand for testing services from accredited TCBs, at least during the months immediately following the transition. Therefore, manufacturers are encouraged to identify near-term testing requirements and contact an accredited TCB to avoid extended delays in testing and certification.
