Real-Time Tracking Coming to NFL Games

Next Gen Stats location systems will be installed in 17 NFL stadiums to track real-time movement of players and referees using radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags inside shoulder pads.

The system will provide position data, acceleration, speed, routes, and distance for each player and referee. Data will be tracked for players on all of the 32 NFL teams and will be captured at 15 Thursday Night Football games, and two other games played in Detroit and New Orleans.  The data will also provide teams with enhanced insights into player performance to change training and scouting methods.
