Chrysler is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 RAM ProMaster vehicles and 2015-2016 ProMaster City vehicles because of problems with the exterior lighting. The Trailer Tow Lighting Control Module may have a software error that can result in a processing issue that prevents the trailer brake lights from illuminating under certain conditions.
The 1,576 vehicles included in the recall are therefore at risk of a crash. They also fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Assoc. Equipment.” Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the Trailer Tow Light Control Module, free of charge.
Per FMVSS 571.108, stop lamps are required on the rear of all trailers with steady burning activated upon application of the service brakes.
