The International Electrotechnical Commission has published a pre-release version of IEC/IEEE 61850-9-3:2016, the standard for “Communication networks and systems for power utility automation – Part 9-3: Precision time protocol profile for power utility automation.” This Final Draft International Standard is an up to 11 weeks’ pre-release of the official publication. It is available for sale on the IEC’s website during the standard’s voting period, which is taking place now through April 08, 2016.

This part of IEC 61850 specifies a precision time protocol (PTP) profile of IEC 61588:2009, IEEE Std 1588-2008 applicable to power utility automation, which allows compliance with the highest synchronization classes of IEC 61850-5 and IEC 61869-9.
